Santa Margherita Guide & Reviews Holiday Rentals, Beach Villas & Apartments to Rent, Holiday Homes

Santa Margherita is in the famous Cinque Terre area of the Italian Riviera looking on to the Tigullio gulf. Set within the Cinque Terre National Park which is a UNESCO world heritage site, Santa Margherita was once a tiny fishing village that has grown in to a bustling port - full of history and culture, fine food and wine with spectacular scenery in every direction.

The port of Santa Margherita has become the main harbour in the area for luxury yachts which drop anchor next to the local fishing boats. The port is also the site for watersports such as sailing and canoeing plus home to the international sailing regattas.

Things to see and do

Santa Margherita and the surrounding area is full of interesting villages, historic sites and countryside to explore. Here are a few suggestions....

  • Take a boat to the stunning tiny fishing village of Portofino with it's fashionable romantic restaurants, designer boutiques that line the cobbled streets and the harbourside cafes and bars
  • Hike along the mountain goat trails connecting the 5 villages that make up the Cinque Terre. To do all five villages at once can take up to 7 hours and the trails vary from gentle to quite challenging
